About Me

 Hello, and welcome

This space is where I share my love for hand embroideryslow creativity, and the quiet, grounding practice of stitching one mindful thread at a time. This blog is both a creative journal and a place of connection: a record of what I’m stitching, what I’m learning, and what I’m creating and sharing with the world.

Embroidery, for me, is not simply a craft or a skill. It is a way of regulating, reflecting, and finding calm. It is deeply personal, gently purposeful, and rooted in wellbeing. Everything I share here, from works in progress to finished pieces and new launches, comes from that place.

My Journey Into Textiles and Embroidery

My path into embroidery grew gradually, shaped by curiosity, care, and a desire to work with my hands. I have been stitching for over 30 years, my journey became more formally grounded when, in 2022, I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Textiles, achieving a First Class degree, specialising with hand embroidery.

During my undergraduate studies, I explored embroidery not only as a visual language but as a tactile, time-based practice. I became increasingly interested in the relationship between repetition, rhythm, and the body,  how stitching could be both expressive and soothing, structured yet intuitive. Hand embroidery became the core of my practice, a medium through which I could slow down and communicate ideas that didn’t always fit easily into words.

Following this, I went on to complete a Master’s degree in Arts Practice, specialising in Arts, Health, and Wellbeing. During my MA, my work expanded beyond making alone and into facilitating, sharing, and exhibiting creative practice. I explored how embroidery and textile based processes could support wellbeing, connection, and self-regulation, both for myself and for others.

This combination of academic study and lived experience continues to shape everything I do.

Embroidery, Autism, and Wellbeing

Hand embroidery means a great deal to me on a personal level. As an autistic person, I experience the world in ways that can often feel overwhelming. Stitching provides a way to regulate, ground myself, and return to a sense of balance.

The calming, rhythmic, and repetitive movements of embroidery help to settle my nervous system. The gentle structure of stitches, the feel of thread passing through fabric, and the quiet focus required all contribute to a sense of calm and safety. It is a practice that allows me to be present in my body and mind.

This is at the heart of why I do what I do.

Hand embroidery, for me, is not about productivity or perfection. It is about presence. It is about allowing time to stretch, hands to move steadily, and thoughts to soften. Embroidery supports my wellbeing, and this blog exists so that I can share that practice, that experience, and the wellbeing it gives me.

What This Blog Is About

This blog is a reflection of my ongoing embroidery practice and creative life. Here you’ll find:

  • What I’m currently stitching: works in progress, finished pieces, and evolving ideas

  • Reflections on hand embroidery: slow making, repetition, regulation, and mindful creativity

  • Behind-the-scenes insights: into my process, materials, and decision-making

  • Updates and new launches: including pieces added to my Etsy shop

  • Thoughts on art, health, and wellbeing: shaped by both practice and study

This is not a space driven by trends or pressure to constantly produce. It is a gentle, honest place where creativity unfolds at its own pace.

My Creative Approach

My creative approach is rooted in curiosity, intention, and a love of challenge. Alongside more traditional hand embroidery, I also create 3D hand embroidery, pushing the boundaries of what hand embroidery can be and allowing the work to move beyond the surface of the fabric. This sculptural approach continually challenges me, both technically and creatively, and it is something I deeply enjoy exploring.

While my work may appear calm and intuitive, much of it follows a linear, structured design process. I often begin with sketching, allowing ideas to take shape on paper before moving into watercolour studies, where I explore colourways, tone, and mood. From there, I move into test stitching, experimenting with techniques, textures, and scale.

Before a final piece is created, I will often work through prototypes and fabric samples, refining how the embroidery behaves, how it interacts with space, and how it feels in the hand. Only then do I begin the final stitching process. This balance of planning and making allows me to feel both grounded and creatively free.

Alongside my hand-embroidered work, I also design and create cross stitch PDF patterns. These are a lot of fun to develop and offer a different way of sharing my practice,  one that invites others to stitch, interpret, and enjoy the process themselves. My cross stitch PDFs are available through my Etsy shop and are regularly updated as new designs are released.

Sharing My Work

Over time, my embroidery practice naturally grew into something I wanted to share more widely. Alongside this blog, I run an Etsy shop, where I offer selected hand-embroidered pieces and creations.

My Etsy shop is an extension of my practice,  a place where work made slowly and with care can find a new home. Every piece carries time, intention, and attention, and reflects the same values I write about here.

I’ll always share shop updates, new launches, and collections on this blog.

Why I Do What I Do

At its core, this blog exists to share my embroidery practice and the wellbeing it brings, while also sharing what I create.

I believe in the power of slow craft. I believe in creativity as a support, not a pressure. And I believe that making things by hand can be both deeply personal and quietly connective.

If you are someone who values mindfulness, enjoys seeing creative processes unfold, or finds comfort in repetition and texture, I hope this space resonates with you.

Thank you for being here, for reading, and for supporting handmade, thoughtful work.

Happy stitching
